Today, Commander Phillip Hickman, Jr., was relieved by Commander Eren Cataloglu as Commanding Officer, Cryptologic Warfare Activity-SIXTY SEVEN.  Commander Cataloglu’s biography follows:

Cmdr. Eren Cataloglu is a native of San Diego, California and a 2005 graduate of the U.S Military Academy at West Point, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Economics and was an Honor Graduate. He holds a Master of Public Administration from Harvard University and earned the school’s Lucius Littauer Award. He served as the Navy’s Federal Executive Fellow at Carnegie Mellon University.

Afloat, Cmdr. Cataloglu served in the Forward-Deployed Naval Forces (FDNF) as the Information Warfare Officer onboard USS Stethem (DDG-63), completing multiple Western Pacific (WESTPAC) deployments.

Ashore, Cmdr. Cataloglu’s served as Information Operations Department Head at Navy Information Operations Command (NIOC) Yokosuka; Deputy Cryptologic Resource Coordinator at U.S. Third Fleet; and Operations Department Head at NIOC San Diego.

During Cmdr. Cataloglu’s first joint assignment, he served as the Military Cyber Liaison at U.S. State Department, where he was selected as a member of the Chief of Naval Operations Rapid Innovation Cell (CRIC). Cmdr. Cataloglu’s second joint assignment was the Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) Chief at Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC). While at JSOC, Cmdr. Cataloglu deployed to augment Joint Task Forces (JTFs) in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Most recently, Cmdr. Cataloglu served as the N39 (Cryptologic Warfare) Department Head at Naval Special Warfare Development Group (NSWDG), leading a team of 97 cryptologists that earned the 2021 Association of Old Crows (AOC) Award. While at NSWDG, Cmdr. Cataloglu deployed to augment multiple JTFs in East Africa.

Thanks to the intrinsically motivated Sailors and civilians that Cmdr. Cataloglu’s rowed alongside during his career, he’s been awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (two awards); Joint Service Commendation Medal (with C); Navy Commendation Medal (three awards); Joint Service Achievement Medal (with C); and Navy Achievement Medal. He is also the recipient of the U.S. State Department’s Meritorious Honor Award and is a graduate of the Army’s Sapper School, where he earned the Army’s Sapper Tab.

Cmdr. Cataloglu is married to the former Jennifer Grodsky of New Orleans, Louisiana. Together, they are raising two incredible children.
