Cryptologic Technician Interpretive Petty Officer First Class Christina M. Bungubung was born and raised in Noble, OK. In May 2011, she graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Arts in International and Area Studies. She decided to enlist in the Navy and departed for basic training in Great Lakes, IL in December 2011. Following graduation from Recruit Training Command, she attended the Korean Course at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA.

LT Croan is a native of LaFayette, New York and graduated from LaFayette High School in 2001.  She attended Rochester Institute of Technology and played Varsity Women’s Soccer before enlisting in the Navy in September 2002.  She completed her Bachelor of Arts in Asian Studies from University of Maryland in 2013.  She completed her Master of Science in Information Systems and Certificate of Advanced Study in Information Security Management from Syracuse University in 2023.

In May 1944, a 23-year-old British secret agent named Phyllis Latour Doyle parachuted into occupied Normandy to gather intelligence on Nazi positions in preparation for D-Day. As an agent for the British Special Operations Executive (SOE), Doyle – who celebrates her 101st birthday this week – secretly relayed 135 coded messages to the British military before France’s liberation in August. She took advantage of the fact that the Nazi occupiers and their French collaborators were generally less suspicious of women, using the knitting she carried as a way to hide her codes. For seventy years, Doyle’s contributions to the war effort were largely unheralded, but she was finally given her due in 2014 when she was awarded France’s highest honor, the Chevalier of the Legion of Honour.

Debra S. DelVecchio was born in Ankara, Turkey, the daughter of a Navy cryptologist serving overseas.  She grew up in Gulf Breeze, FL and attended Spring Hill College, in Mobile, AL where she graduated in 1986 with a BS in Mathematics.  Upon graduation, Debra attended Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Newport, RI and began her Navy career as a cryptologist.

Gladys West was born as Gladys Mae Brown in Sutherland, Virginia, in Dinwiddie County, a rural county south of Richmond. Her family was an African-American farming family in a community of sharecroppers, and she spent much of her childhood working on her family’s small farm.

Captain Julia L. Slattery, a native of Los Altos, California, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering.

Upon commissioning, she entered the Surface Warfare community and served onboard: USS WILLAMETTE (AO 180) as 1st LT/Replenishment Officer, Main Propulsion Assistant and deployed in support of Operation Southern Watch; USS BATAAN (LHD 5) as a Plankowner, serving as Fire Control Officer and deployed in support of Operation Full Provider in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico; and USS O’KANE (DDG 77) as the Weapons/Combat Systems Officer, deploying in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
