Remembering IT2 Timothy T. Eckels, USN, KIA USS John S. McCain

Born on October 31, 1993 in Baltimore City, Maryland to Timothy Thomas Eckels and Rachel (Pinkston) Eckels, IT2 Timothy Thomas Eckels graduated from Manchester Valley High School in 2012.  On August 21, 2017, Eckels was killed when the USS John S. McCain he was serving in was involved in a collision with the Liberian-flagged tanker off the coast of Singapore and Malaysia, east of the Strait of Malacca.  A total of 10 Sailors were killed.

Celebrating a Change of Command and Retirement

On October 28, 2022, NIOC Georgia celebrated the change of command with CAPT Joel Yates properly relieving CAPT Dom Lovello as Commanding Officer/Commander Task Force 1050.  Immediately following the change of command ceremony, CAPT Dom Lovello retired.

CAPT Joel A. Yates, USN Assumes Command of NIOC

Today, Captain Dom Lovello will be relieved by Captain Joel Yates as Commanding Officer, Navy Information Operations Command Georgia. Captain Joel Yates’ biography follows:

Honoring Captain Dominic R. Lovello, USN, TF 1050/CO NIOC Georgia

Tomorrow, Captain Dom Lovello retires after 38 years of service.  A highly respected Naval Officer, Captain Lovello served our great nation and Navy with honor and distinction as and a Cryptologic Warfare Officer.  Enlisting in the Navy as an E-1, Dom Lovello advanced to Chief Petty Officer, received an officer commission through the Limited Duty Officer program and finally lateral transferred to Special Duty Officer (Cryptologic Warfare), achieving the rank of Captain!  Captain Lovello’s biography, command achievements and End of Tour award follow:

A Conversation with Rear Adm. Tracy Hines

Rear Adm. Tracy Hines is the Director, Enterprise Networks and Cybersecurity, for the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations for Information Warfare (OPNAV N2N6). She received her commission through the Limited Duty Officer Program in 1996 and graduated from American InterContinental University with a degree in business management in 2004, and laterally transferred into the Information Warfare community in 2007. Rear Adm. Hines received a master’s degree in information technology cyber forensics from Trident University in 2009.

Japanese Carrier Zuikaku

October 25, 1944, U.S. Navy aircraft sank the Zuikaku, the last surviving Japanese carrier that had participated in the attack on Pearl Harbor. With the Zuikaku listing heavily to port just before rolling over and sinking, the crew salutes the Japanese naval ensign as it is lowered.
