Seaman Briggs’ story simply was too full of holes to hold up to much scrutiny. For one thing, he could not pin down the circumstances of his intercept of the Winds Execute message. In his interview, he said that he had worked the midnight shift from 3 to 4 December.

CTI2 Sabrina Agnewrossbauer, Sailor in the Spotlight

From the Office of the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy:

This week the Sailor spotlight shines on on Cryptologic Technician (Interpretive) 2nd Class Sabrina Agnewrossbauer, a Hilton Head Island, South Carolina native, and while assigned to Navy Information Operations Center, Hawaii, has been filling a direct support billet serving aboard Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS HIGGINS (DDG 76) since May 2022 while the ship is conducting operations in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility.

Winds Execute Message – The Winds Controversy Resurfaces: Part 1 of 5

The Winds controversy virtually disappeared after the conclusion of the Joint Congressional Committee hearings. Some of Captain Safford’s supporters kept alive his version, but the general trend for histories of Pearl Harbor written during the next three decades tended to relegate the matter of the Winds message to the role of a curiosity or a mistake on the part of Safford.

Who is Major James Capers, Jr., USMC?

Capers was born on August 25, 1937 in South Carolina to a family of sharecroppers during the Jim Crow era. He later moved to Baltimore where he would meet the love of his life and future wife Dottie and decide to enlist in the Marines.  This would be the start of a legendary career that overcame obstacles and broke barriers on and off the battlefield as one of the greatest Marines to ever serve.
