Navy Rear Adm. Craig A. Clapperton appointment to the grade of vice admiral, and assignment as commander, Fleet Cyber Command; and commander, Tenth Fleet, Fort George G. USS Triton Completed First Submerged Circumnavigation

On April 25 1960, USS Triton completed the first submerged circumnavigation of the world while under the command of CAPT Edward Beach, Jr. Starting and ending at the St. Peter and Paul Rocks in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean near the Equator, the Triton traveled 26,723 nautical miles in 60 days and 21 hours. The Triton received the Presidential Unit Citation with a special clasp in the form of the globe.
