FORCM ROBERT H. ANDERSON III
UNITED STATES NAVY, RETIRED
Robert H. Anderson III was born in Ashford, Washington, on 11 March 1936, Master Chief Anderson has 47 years of service with the government, 33 years of active duty with the U.S. Navy and 14 years with government civil service. All of the service has been with the Naval Security Group.

While on active duty with the Naval Security Group he had tours as an “R” branch Cryptologic Technician at Sidi Yahia, Morocco, 1955 to 1957; NSGA Skaggs Island, 1957 to 1958; Naval Station Midway Island, 1958 to 1959; and TUSLOG Detachment 12 Istanbul, Turkey, 1959 to 1961. Because of a background in Electronic Intelligence (ELINT) he was shifted to the new “T” branch field and had tours at NSGD CINCLANTFLT Staff Norfolk, Virginia, 1962 to 1965; Pacific Command ELINT Center, Fuchu (Tokyo) Japan, 1965 to 1969; NSGA Todendorf, Germany, 1969 to 1971; NSGD CINCLANTFLT Staff 1971 to 1973 (2nd tour), NSGD CINCPACFLT Staff, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, 1973 to 1978; Command Master Chief, NTTC Corry Station, Pensacola, Florida, 1978 to 1981; Command Master Chief, Intelligence Center Pacific, Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii, 1981 to 1982; and Force Master Chief (FORCM) of the Naval Security Group Command, 1982 until his retirement from active duty in 1986.

After a mandatory six months separation from government service after retirement, Master Chief Anderson went to work for the Naval Security Group Detachment, Pensacola, Florida, on 27 April 1987. He was the third member of the command actually on board. He has been through the initial set-up of the detachment that started in one of the Naval Technical Training Centers buildings, the modular building complex (trailers) that were set up in what is now the parking lot of the current facility, the Naval Information Operations Command, Pensacola.  He retired from, what was then , NSGA Pensacola in March of 2001.
Master Chief Anderson was the Executive Director of the Naval Cryptologic Veterans Association  from 1997 until 2012.  He retired from that position and has worked at the CRYPTOLOGIC Command Display onboard Corry Station, Pensacola from 2001 until the present.
He was married to the former Angie Sanchez of Hollister, California. They have four grown children, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
