On November 22, 2025, we observe the 50th anniversary of the collision between USS Belknap (CG-26) and USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67)—a moment that forever shaped our Navy’s history.

This anniversary brings a solemn blend of pride and sorrow. We honor the remarkable courage of the Belknap sailors who fought through fire, destruction, and chaos to save their ship. Their actions—rooted in discipline, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to one another—stand as enduring examples of what it means to serve.

At the same time, we remember with deep sadness the eight sailors who lost their lives that night. Their sacrifice is etched into our collective memory, reminding us of the risks borne by all who stand watch at sea.

Fifty years later, we carry forward their legacy—grateful for the heroes who prevailed, and forever mindful of those we lost.
