In late 1969 and early 1970, a Puerto Rican policeman shot in the air to get the attention of a rowdy demonstration crowd against the presence of the US in Puerto Rico. He accidentally shot a young woman dead on a balcony who was observing the excitement. The independistas declared that for every brave Puerto Rican that fell, two American would be killed. Within a few weeks, they shot two sailors at Roosevelt Roads on the other end of the island. Sabana Seca is not the great duty it once was. As a result, I have never returned.
