Mike Lambert enlisted in the United States Navy in 1975 as a Seaman Recruit, beginning what would become a three-decade journey from the lowest rung of enlisted service to the rank of Captain. That arc — from recruit to commanding officer — shaped the leader he became: someone who understood his Sailors because he had once been one of them.

Early in 1924, the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO), Admiral Edward W. Eberle, encouraged the Commander in Chief, Asiatic Fleet (CINCAF), Admiral Thomas Washington, to expand radio intelligence facilities in his area. As a result of this encouragement, in 1924, the first shore-based intercept station was established in the American consulate in Shanghai. Its primary target was the diplomatic radio network serving the numerous Japanese consulates throughout China. Shanghai also copied both Naval and commercial traffic (Japanese and British).

Established in May 1946, U.S. Naval Security Group Activity (NSGA) Cape Chiniak, Alaska relocated to Elmendorf AFB, near Anchorage on April 11, 1966 establishing NSGA Anchorage. The communications facility located included an operations building located outside of the the AN/FLR-9 Circularly Disposed Antenna Array (CDAA), also known as a Wullenweber antenna array. NSGA Anchorage continued operations for the next 32 years and on February 28, 1998 the command was disestablished.

PASCAGOULA, Miss., (Sept. 27, 2025) — HII’s (NYSE: HII) Ingalls Shipbuilding division successfully completed builder’s sea trials for guided missile destroyer Ted Stevens (DDG 128), marking a major milestone in the construction of the second Flight III destroyer built at Ingalls. The trials were conducted over several days in the Gulf of America, and tested the ship’s engineering, navigation, and combat systems to ensure readiness for the future acceptance trials and eventual delivery to the U.S. Navy.
