Beginning tomorrow, Station HYPO will launch a five-part series titled “The SIGINT Satellite Story.” This fascinating series is based on a historical document produced by the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) and officially declassified on February 10, 2016.

The series will explore the evolution of U.S. Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) satellites, highlighting the pioneering efforts, technological breakthroughs, and dedicated personnel who helped establish and advance one of the nation’s most important intelligence capabilities. From the earliest concepts and Cold War challenges to the development of increasingly sophisticated space-based collection systems, this story provides a unique look into a once highly classified chapter of intelligence history.
