A note from Duffy Merrill, the NCVA Biographer:
When an NCVA member passes and wishes for their obituary to accurately reflect their service as recorded by NCVA, it is essential that their information be submitted to the NCVA Biographer. To support this process, the NCVA Biographer maintains two databases: a Main Database and a Duty Station Database.
The information contained in both databases supports the Obituary Editor in preparing a complete and accurate obituary for a deceased NCVA member. These databases are designed to document a member’s active duty and/or Reserve service, particularly if such information is not fully reflected on the main database worksheet. Additional notable achievements or positions may be recorded in the “Remarks” column of the Duty Station worksheet for inclusion in the database.
Worksheets for both databases are available from the Biographer upon request. Completion of the appropriate worksheet by the member is required prior to entry into either database. This is not an automatic process; members must complete and return the worksheet to the Biographer, who will then enter the information into the databases.
The Duty Station Database worksheet includes a “Remarks” column where members may list specific positions or accomplishments held during a military tour, such as Division Officer, Division LCPO, or an NCVA officer position.
All information provided is kept confidential. It is not shared with outside sources and is used solely by the Biographer. Upon notification of a member’s passing, relevant information is shared only with the Obituary Editor for obituary preparation.
Questions regarding database inclusion or requests for a worksheet may be directed to Duffy Merrill at sanduf@msn.com or dmnonamer@gmail.com. Updates to previously submitted information may also be sent to these email addresses.
