Did you know that among the D Day invasion force was New York Yankees legend and MLB Hall of Famer Yogi Berra? At the age of 19, Berra was a gunner’s mate assigned to attack transport USS Bayfield. The Bayfield carried troops of the 8th Infantry Regiment to Utah Beach.

It’s interesting that he is recognized in Baseball history as a great manager when he also was one of the most productive hitters to play the game. A true slugger. Thank you for this, Mario. I did not know he was a sailor at D-Day!

Who will ever forget the quips spawned by Yogi Berra? In fact, they came to be known as “Yogi-ism.” A couple of his most famous include:
“Keep trying. Stay humble. Trust your instincts. Most importantly, act. When you come to a fork in the road, take it.”
“Listen up, because I’ve got nothing to say and I’m only gonna to say it once.”
Another one of the “greats” of the “greatest generation.”

Yogi’s hometown St Louis Cardinals told him that he didn’t have the talent to play in the Majors. 🤣

I remember reading about Yogi on D-Day. I grew up in suburban NY and was a Yankee fan. The first book I read in the 9th grade, some 65 years ago, was a biography of Yogi.
