In light of increased Operational Security (OPSEC) concerns, Station HYPO will no longer publicly announce Change of Command events. This decision reflects our ongoing commitment to safeguarding sensitive information and ensuring the security of our operations and personnel.
We understand that Change of Command ceremonies are significant milestones for leaders in our community and its members. However, the evolving security environment compels Station HYPO to adopt more stringent measures to protect operational integrity and reduce potential vulnerabilities.
Thank you for your understanding,
Mario

People questioning this decision on the account of this information being public may not give adequate consideration to the fact that while the events are open to the public, information on them is generally more closely held and not subject to press releases, etc.; that precisely goes to OPSEC concerns. Note, I write this as one who respectfully disagrees with the decision to not post about these event; indeed, you can mitigate risks associated with OPSEC and I argue that these events (almost always held on secured military bases) already have plenty of risk mitigation from an OPSEC and force protection perspective. That said, it would not shock me if the commands themselves requested that this information stop being posted, in which case I’d absolutely do so. But I hope that Station Hypo continues to publish posts honoring outgoing and incoming commanding officers. There’s no OPSEC concerns about that given that this information is readily available on the NAVIFOR websites for these commands. I also hope that Station Hypo continues to post about changes of command after the fact, as these activities continue to do as well!
