Remembering Captain Robert A. Carpenter, USN (ret)

Robert Alphonsus Carpenter was born in Windsor, Ontario on July 23, 1941. Bob grew up in New Jersey, and graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1963. After graduation he attended Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI, and was commissioned Ensign, USNR in February 1964. Upon completion of Officer Candidate School he was assigned to the staff of Commander Task Force 43 and deployed to New Zealand and the Antarctic, earning the Antarctic Service Medal. He was then assigned to the Naval Radio Station at Thurso, Scotland.

First Joint Operation of U.S. and UK Navies Dual Nuclear Aircraft Carriers in Talisman Sabre

Messaging Continues:
According to information published by the U.S. Department of Defense on July 18, 2025, the U.S. Navy’s Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) and the Royal Navy’s Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales (R09) conducted their first-ever dual carrier operations while underway in the Timor Sea during Exercise Talisman Sabre 2025. This historic event marks the first time that nuclear-powered aircraft carriers from both the United States and the United Kingdom have operated together in a coordinated maritime formation.

July 21, 1944 – Guam Liberated and Activation of Station Able

July 21st is celebrated as Guam Liberation Day, the day when Americans came ashore in 1944. Alaska’s Aleutian Islands were liberated in 1943, and the Philippines would be liberated by the early part of 1945. The Japanese formally surrendered Sept. 2, 1945.
