Top US admiral says he’s watching China’s rapid naval buildup closely

The top U.S. admiral on Monday called China’s shipbuilding capability “impressive” as Beijing moves ahead with a rapid buildup of the world’s largest navy, and said America’s cooperation with Asian allies South Korea and Japan is essential for its own shipbuilding capability.

Remembering CAPT William L McGonagle, USN, Commanding Officer USS Liberty (AGTR 5)

William Loren McGonagle was born in Wichita, Kansas, on 19 November 1925 and attended secondary school and college in California. He was active in the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps and was commissioned in the rank of Ensign upon graduation from the University of Southern California in June 1947.

Chinese ship jams communications as Filipino forces deliver supplies to Philippines-occupied shoal

MANILA, Philippines (AP) — Philippine forces transported food, fuel and new personnel to a territorial outpost in a long-disputed shoal i n the South China Sea, where Chinese government ships jammed communications during the hourslong supply mission as part of Beijing’s security practice in the far-flung atoll, two top officials in the Philippines said Tuesday.

Can the Latest Plan for CYBERCOM Stave Off Calls for a New Service?

In a brief email Nov. 6, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth laid out a new Cyber Force Generation plan, meant to give U.S. Cyber Command more authority over the employment, training, and equipping of U.S. troops preparing for and waging cyber war. Former Air Force officers and national security officials say the plan is meant to fix longstanding problems that have beset the U.S. military’s cyberspace efforts—and to head off growing calls for an entirely new military service.
