Remembering Alan Hale, Jr. aka the Skipper

Alan Hale was born on March 8, 1921 and died on January 2, 1990.  Hale served in the Coast Guard during WWII and is best known for appearing on “Gilligan’s Island” as Jonas Grumby, AKA the Skipper. The character was a Navy vet who fought at Guadalcanal and claimed to be the best poker player in the 7th Fleet.

China is Prepared to Confront the United States

Recently, China has declared its readiness to engage in a tariff war or any other form of conflict with the United States. On March 6, 2025, Lin Jian, a spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that China is prepared to confront the U.S. in a tariff war, trade war, or any other type of war. This declaration came in response to the U.S. implementing new tariffs on Chinese products.

The Haircut

You are a newly qualified ensign standing your first officer of the day watch on the quarterdeck.  Only a few days earlier the ship’s executive officer put the word out that all hands leaving the ship must be in proper uniform or civilian attire.

Obediently, you send back several junior crewmembers who try to cross the quarterdeck with improper haircuts and shaves.  Several hours later, after all junior crew who are going ashore have left, a highly respected and hardworking chief approaches who is obviously in need of a haircut.

Corry Station on Lockdown – Update False Alarm!

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — Law enforcement is responding to an active shooter Thursday morning at Corry Station in Escambia County, according to NAS Pensacola.

It happened around 10 a.m. at the station on Chiefs Way off of Navy Boulevard.

Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons told WEAR News at 11:15 a.m. that deputies received a call for three gunshots. However, at this time after sweeping the building, there are no signs of an active shooter. No one has been found injured. An investigation is ongoing.

The massive law enforcement presence on scene includes Escambia County deputies, Pensacola Police, EMS, helicopters, FDLE and more.

“Our Security team is responding swiftly and expertly with our local law enforcement partners,” said Capt. Chandra Newman with NAS Pensacola. “Our concern is always the safety and welfare of our service members and their families. Our security forces will continue to work with responding law enforcement to process the crime scene.”

Corry Station and NAS Pensacola is on lockdown — and roads in the area are closed — as law enforcement works the scene.

Bainbridge Island Rededication:

We are looking at 23 May for the Plaque dedication at Station S on Bainbridge Island. We wanted it to be as close to Memorial Day as possible so we can tie that into the importance of the work done there during WWII.
