While on leave in 2006, I found myself in a bookstore on Atlanta’s West End. Looking around, I found a book written by Adolph W. Newton entitled Better than Good: A Black Sailors War, 1943-1945. The title was intriguing, so I bought it and took it back to Pensacola with me.

Honoring Commander Vanessa Hamm, USN, (Ret.)

Commander Vanessa Hamm, a native of Detroit, Michigan, spent much of her upbringing in Shorter, Alabama. She attended Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Georgia, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a minor in Naval Science. On December 23, 1993, she was commissioned as a Naval Ensign through the Atlanta Region Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) and began her career as a cryptologist.

Remembering CTRC Robert “Bob” Little (Ret.)

I first met Bob Little while serving at NSGA Misawa, Japan. We were both assigned to the 51 Division, the Manual Morse Intercept Division. At the time, I was a CTRSA, and Bob was a CTR2, serving as the division training officer.

Station HYPO Temporarily Suspended

After nearly a decade of service, with over 2,800 posts and 2.5 million visits, I have made the decision to temporarily suspend Station HYPO. This pause will take effect after February, in honor of African-American Heritage Month.
