Today marks the 20-year anniversary of the disestablishment Naval Security Group Command

On September 30, 2005, the Naval Security Group Command (NAVSECGRU / Naval Security Group) was formally disestablished. Twenty years later—on September 30, 2025—that date stands as a milestone for reflection on one of the U.S. Navy’s most consequential signals-intelligence and cryptologic organizations. This article traces NAVSECGRU’s origins, evolution through wartime and the Cold War, its transition into the information-age Navy, and the legacy that followed its 2005 disestablishment.

Beer Day!!

Today is National Drink Beer Day! In 1980, sailors aboard USS Eisenhower spent 152 consecutive days underway during which time they had three separate beer days. Because sailors were permitted to have two cans on each beer day, the deployment became known as the “Six Pack Cruise”.

Times have changed.

2 guided missile cruisers decommissioned in Virginia after 36 years of service

The USS Normandy and USS Philippine Sea, both Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruisers, saw their respective 36 years of service honored at decommissioning ceremonies Thursday at Naval Station Norfolk, Va.

Remembering CTSN David W. Marlborough, USN, KIA USS Liberty

September 28, 1948 – June 6, 1967

IN MEMORY OF “CTSN DAVID W. MARLBOROUGH, U.S. NAVY”

Who is David Marlborough. He was the son of two proud parents. He was the middle of 3 male siblings. He was a friend of many, both male and female. He was loved by so many. Our family grew up in Springfield, Massachusetts, in a area of the city known as Hungry Hill, in which the majority of residents were of Irish Descent and of Catholic Faith.

Russian warplanes detected flying near Alaska again, US military says

U.S. fighter jets scrambled to identify and intercept four Russian warplanes flying near Alaska, the North American Aerospace Defense Command said Thursday.

It’s the third time in about a month and the ninth time this year NORAD has reported such an incident involving Russian aircraft flying near Alaska. This latest incident happened Wednesday.
