The Laws of the Navy

Admiral Hopwood’s “Laws of the Navy” was first published in a British periodical on 23 July, 1898.  Well known throughout the Navy, it has appeared in the United States Naval Academy’s “Reef Points” for a number of years.

NIOC Pensacola Sets Gold Standard for Reserve Integration

PENSACOLA, Fla. — Navy Information Operations Command (NIOC) Pensacola recently completed a successful mobilization exercise with a Navy Reserve Cyber Protection Team (CPT), demonstrating the Navy’s commitment to integrating Reserve expertise into critical cyber operations.  Conducted over two 2-week periods between June and August 2025, the exercise brought together Sailors from across the Navy Reserve Information Warfare (IW) Community to Pensacola to enhance their team’s readiness and seamlessly incorporate them into the command’s Defensive Cyber Operations (DCO) mission.

China, Russia Collaborating On Plans For Airborne Invasion Of Taiwan

A European hacker group obtained documents that reveal that China is working with Moscow to develop a Russian-origin automated command-and-control system for landing operations, such as a future invasion of Taiwan.

Remembering the Crew of USS John S. McCain (DDG 56)

On August 21, 2017, USS John S. McCain (DDG 56), was involved in a collision with the Liberian-flagged tanker Alnic MC off the coast of Singapore and Malaysia, east of the Strait of Malacca. According to a U.S. Navy press release, the breach “resulted in flooding to nearby compartments, including crew berthing, machinery, and communications rooms.”

The US Navy is building a drone fleet to take on China. It’s not going well.

During a U.S. naval test off the California coast last month, which was designed to showcase the Pentagon’s top autonomous drone boats, one vessel stalled unexpectedly.

As officials scrambled to fix a software glitch, another drone vessel smashed into the idling boat’s starboard side, vaulted over the deck, and crashed back into the water – an incident captured in videos obtained by Reuters.

A Tribute to “Red” Carpenter

I wasn’t “Red’s” favorite CT when we served in the Azores. Our ideologies and philosophies were very diverse in nature due primarily from our background. Red came from Illinois and joined the Navy as a teenager. He was serious; a World War II veteran and a Navy career man. I was 21 years old living in Brooklyn, New York, when I joined the Navy during the Korean War and served the last 11 months of a 4 year enlistment in the Azores with “Red.”
