Birth of Naval Aviation

On May 8, 1911, 114 years ago, Capt. Washington I. Chambers prepared the requisition for the first U.S. Navy airplane, the A-1 Triad, marking the birth of n naval  aviation. The work of our aviators has been pivotal during both peacetime and war, and their capabilities are the envy of the world.

Limited Duty Officer (Cryptology/6810) Disestablished

On April 6, 2021, the U.S. Navy officially disestablished the Limited Duty Officer (LDO) program for the Cryptologic Warfare Officer (designator 6810) community. This marked a significant shift in how the Navy manages talent and expertise within the Cryptologic Warfare (CW) wardroom.

Navy Commissions 24th Virginia Class SSN

GROTON, Conn. – The Navy commissioned its 24th Virginia-class fast-attack submarine, USS Iowa (SSN 797), in a traditional ceremony held April 5, at Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, Connecticut.

April 5, 1929 The Signals Intelligence Service was Created

April 5, 1929, the the U.S. Secretary of War transferred cryptologic functions from the Military Intelligence Division to the Signal Corps – creating the Signals Intelligence Service (SIS) with William F. Friedman as its head.
