NAVIFOR Showcases Information Warfare Capabilities at WEST 2025

San Diego, Calif. — Naval Information Warfare (IW) warfighters, leaders, and industry partners gathered at WEST 2025 to highlight the growing importance of IW in maritime operations. Held at the San Diego Convention Center from January 28-30, the conference, co-sponsored by the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) International and the U.S. Naval Institute (USNI), provided a crucial platform for discussions on how IW is shaping the future of naval warfare.

Honoring Rev. Dr. James E Prioleau, II, D Min. CWO3 Retired, USN

While on leave in 2006, I found myself in a bookstore on Atlanta’s West End. Looking around, I found a book written by Adolph W. Newton entitled Better than Good: A Black Sailors War, 1943-1945. The title was intriguing, so I bought it and took it back to Pensacola with me.

Honoring Commander Vanessa Hamm, USN, (Ret.)

Commander Vanessa Hamm, a native of Detroit, Michigan, spent much of her upbringing in Shorter, Alabama. She attended Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Georgia, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a minor in Naval Science. On December 23, 1993, she was commissioned as a Naval Ensign through the Atlanta Region Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) and began her career as a cryptologist.
