Today at 1400EST, Captain Peter Shepard will relieved by Captain Meredith Schley as Commander, Naval Information Warfare Training Group.  Captain Shepard’s biography follows:

Capt. Shepard earned his commission through the NROTC program at Purdue University earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering in May 1995.

Capt. Shepard’s sea assignments include: Squadron Intelligence Officer for VAW-115 at NAF Atsugi, Japan from 1996 through1998, completing multiple deployments with the USS Independence Battle Group; Assistant Intelligence Officer for Commander, Carrier Strike Group (CCSG) Five / CTF-70, embarked on USS Kitty Hawk in Yokosuka, Japan, from April 2005 to December 2007, conducting multiple Western Pacific / Indian Ocean deployments; as N2 for CCSG Seven embarked on USS Ronald Reagan from June 2011 to December 2011; as N2 for CCSG Eleven embarked on USS Nimitz from December 2011 to June 2013, where he deployed to C5F and C7F supporting Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF); and as the Information Warfare Commander for CCSG Eight, embarked on USS Harry S. Truman from June 2021 to September 2022.

Capt. Shepard has deployed as an air defense analyst in support of Operations Southern Watch and OEF from August to November 2001 at JTF-South West Asia in Saudi Arabia.  He completed a deployment to Afghanistan in support of OEF to support a deployed special operations task force from October 2009 to February 2010.

Capt. Shepard’s shore assignments include: leading a team of analysts from January 2000 to January 2003 at the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI); duty as a China Watch Officer and as the chief of the Submarine Analysis Group from February 2003 to March 2005 at the Joint Intelligence Center, Pacific; earning Joint Qualified Officer designation while leading a team of analysts in the China Military Capabilities Branch from April 2008 to April 2011 at the Defense Intelligence Agency; serving as Executive Assistant (EA) to the Director of Warfare Integration at OPNAV N2N6 from July 2013 to June 2014; duties as Officer-in-Charge of the Chief of Naval Operations Intelligence Plot from June 2014 to June 2015; serving as the EA to Commander, ONI from June 2015 to August 2016; and serving as the ONI Deputy N3 from August 2016 to June 2017.  He served as the Third Fleet N2 and Deputy Maritime Operations Center Director from June 2017 to December 2018.  He served as the Commanding Officer, Navy Element, Defense Intelligence Agency from January 2019 to September 2020.  He served as Chief of Staff at the Naval Intelligence Activity from September 2020 to June 2021.

In September 2022 he assumed duties as Commander, Naval Information Warfare Training Group Headquarters which is responsible for three subordinate commands, two detachments and two reserve commands.

Capt. Shepard earned a Master’s Degree in Systems Technology in December 1999 from the Naval Postgraduate School. He earned his Information Warfare Officer pin in September 2010. His awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (two awards), Defense Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), and other individual, unit, and campaign awards.
