CIA’s Office of Research and Development developed a camera small and light enough to be carried by a pigeon. Upon release, the bird would fly over a target with the camera running, capturing images throughout its flight and on its return home. Being a common species, the pigeon concealed its intelligence collection role among the activities of thousands of other birds. Pretty coo-l, huh?

I was going to ask if this was an April Fool’s Day joke that was sent out a little too late.

The Germans had a similar idea in the thirties intending to use pigeons to fly messages from their spies in the UK back to the Fatherland (true story) but one of them became. Stool pigeon! (I made that bit up)
