ATN3 David Monroe Willis
December 22, 1946 – April 15, 1969
Aviation Electronics Technician, Third Class David Monroe Willis, was born on December 22, 1946 in Los Angeles County, CA to Roy Arthur Willis and Margie Louise Everroad Willis Gillespie.
Petty Officer Willis was one of 31 Sailors who were killed when North Korea Mig Fighter shot down the EC-121 surveillance aircraft they were flying in while conducting a National Security mission. Petty Officer Willis’ body was lost at sea.
David Monroe Willis awards include three Air Medals, Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Defense Service Medal and the Service awards for Vietnam.

We mourn the loss of these brave men who died on the front line of democracy between the free world and those that would turn that part of the world into a dungeon as those maniacs in North Korea would creep closer to our allies in the Pacific.

In addition to the awards mentioned above, ATN3 Willis also flew with VQ-1 in Da Nang (1968), earning 3 Air Medals and the service awards for Vietnam.
