I was a CTT from 1967 through 1970, and was stationed at Corry Field, Pensacola, Florida, NSGA Bremerhaven, West Germany, and San Miguel NSGA Philippines. I learned Morse Code at age 14 for Boy Scout Camporee competitions. My FCC Amateur Radio callsign is WA8LVY. Being a CTT was very strenuous work. We worked EVE, EVE, DAY, DAY, MID, MID watches in Bremerhaven and in the Philippines. Those around-the-clock work hours in 6 days take a toll on the brain. It was one of the reasons I decided not to ship over. There were the positives of being able to travel all over Europe on days off and the San Miguel base was a tropical paradise. Going to Corregidor Island with Special Services in 1970 was very cool, except our bus being attacked in Manila on the way back to San Miguel.

I loved 2-2-2-80. The hours per month equate to a 40 hour work week. You get 80 hours to do whatever you want. I don’t know if I could do the sleep schedule today but back then I loved it.
