David Edward Olson, Captain, U.S. Navy
June 13, 1941 – March 27, 2021

Captain David Olson, U.S. Navy (Retired), age 79, died on March 27, 2021 in Rockville, Maryland.  He was commissioned an Ensign in the U.S. Navy with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in International Relations from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln in 1963, a Russian Language graduate of the Defense Language School, held a Masters Degree in Russian Area Studies from Georgetown University, and attended both the Naval War College and the National War College.

He was a 27-year navy veteran who served on destroyers, amphibious attack transports, nuclear carriers and submarines and commanded award winning activities ashore in NSGA Keflavik, Iceland and NSGA Misawa, Japan. His last tour of duty was with the On Site Inspection Agency as a charter member, on-site inspection team chief, and its first Chief of the Inspection Division responsible for the successful accomplishment of on-site inspections in the former Soviet Union under the terms of the Intermediate-Range and Shorter- Range Nuclear Forces Treaty.

He is survived by his beloved wife Susan of 46 years, 2 sons, David (Crisi) and Michael (Eve), 6 grandchildren: Grace, Elyse, Will, Matt, Eli, and Jake, and his dear sister, Jennifer Dobbins (Bobby) of Grand Island, Nebraska.

A celebration of life memorial service was conducted at St. James’ Episcopal Church, Potomac, MD in the future and will be followed by internment in Arlington National Cemetery.
