In 1987, NSGA Charleston was the Navy AOC winner. We had a myriad of cryptologic missions under the leadership of CDR Ron Taylor and XO Jack Lutes.
We installed OICS vans on ships, conducted PSVAP Surveys, conducted/provided Operational Vulnerability studies and products to fleet customers, retrofitted compromised crypto systems, supported the EWIR ELINT database, conducted TELMON missions, COMSEC support to SEAL teams, TGU support to EW community, and vulnerability assessments.
We were a small command but made a major contribution. Staffed with top notch sailors and civilian engineers with excellent leadership.
This command just a few years earlier was known as just a place for relaxing on a twilight tour. We turned up the flame.
