Yogi Berra
May 12, 1925 – – September 22, 2015
Did you know that among the D Day invasion force was New York Yankees legend and MLB Hall of Famer Yogi Berra? At the age of 19, Berra was a gunner’s mate assigned to attack transport USS Bayfield (APA 33). The Bayfield carried troops of the 8th Infantry Regiment to Utah Beach.

Mr. Berra was quite a man. His famous quips made him a legend. But he was not given the full recognition he deserved in serving our country. He was a good human being with a kind heart. As a kid growing up, I always admired his talents, modesty, and integrity that he always displayed. Thank you for this post. God bless Mr. Berra always.

Maybe that’s where he came up with that expression of his “it ain’t over till it’s over.” Grew up 6 blocks from the stadium when he was in his prime. Loved watching is stubby form behind home plate. Heck of a ball player and now I learn a heck of a man too. Thanks
