The official start of the Battle of Okinawa. On the morning of April 1st, U.S. navy ships rained a pre-landing bombardment of 44,825 shells, 33,000 rockets and 22,500 mortar shells plus napalm attacks by carrier planes on the invasion beaches. Two U.S. Army divisions land along the southwest coast of Okinawa, with zero opposition and almost no casualties.

Do you have any idea regarding the meaning of the frequency designators, like 3342J, 6540E and 6650J?
I’m familiar with the time of day affects on shortwave radio transmission distances. If the number part is the frequency in kilohertz (back then kilocycles per second or Kc), the numbers make sense. But what about the following letter?

I believe they are radio circuit designators.
