After 40 years of service to his country and navy, Captain James H. Henderson-Coffey retires, February 1, 2020!

Captain Henderson-Coffey’s biography follows:

Captain James H. Henderson-Coffey, USN

Born in Kentucky and moved to Pittsburgh Pa in his early teens.  He enlisted in 1979 and has been in the US Navy for over 39 years.  His experience in Naval Cryptology & Information Warfare includes: surface, subsurface, air platform cryptologic collection and defensive systems, training management, curriculum development, and IO strategic planning and target development.  Currently the N39 for C10F/FCC, and most recently, July 2016-May 2017 Student AWC class of 17, Sep 2014 – July 2016 NIOC Fort Gordon as 104 CMT / Navy Cyber Unit 17 Commander, Sep 2012 – 2014 as the Operations Officer at NIOC Ft Gordon Ga, and September 2011 –  2012 duty as ISAF Joint Command (IJC) Deputy IO Director and Targeting Chief Kabul, Afghanistan.

Since enlisting, in 1979, he has been a Naval Cryptologist.  Initiated as a Chief Petty Officer in 1992, and commissioned via the LDO program in 1996. His warfare qualifications include Information Dominance Warfare Officer (IDWO), Naval Air Observer (NAO), Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist (ESWS), Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist (EAWS), and qualified Master Training Specialist (MTS).  He has taught and managed enlisted “A” & “C” schools, as well as the Naval Cryptologic Officer Basic Course (NCOBC), and the Afloat Cryptologic Management course (ACM).

Additional leadership assignments include  Division Chief Afloat LHD-1, Operations Watch Officer NSGA North West,  Augmentation Division Officer, Direct Support Submarines Officer, N7 Training Department Head, Course manager and instructor Naval Cryptologic Officer Basic Course (NCOBC),  Assistant 6th Fleet Staff Cryptologist afloat,  Executive Officer  NSGA Rota Spain, Officer in Charge NIOD Rota Spain, Ops Officer / Department Head afloat LHD-8,  N5 Training Requirements Department Head CID Pensacola, Battalion Commander CID Pensacola.

Personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, two Meritorious service medals, seven Navy and Marine Corps commendation Medals, and various other awards, unit citations, and commendations.  He has a daughter Mia, age 26.  His education includes a Masters in Strategic Studies from the Air War College (AWC), Bachelor’s of Arts,  Associate’s of Arts degrees, from Excelsior College, Albany, NY.  Hobbies include, sports, boating, motorcycling, and most importantly spending time with family.
