HAPPY NEW YEAR TO MARIO VULCANO AND STAFF AT STATION HYPO!!!
As an ‘old timer’ (I’m 82 and served from end Feb ’56 thru Sep 30 ’86; NSG Oct ’56 thru end July ’86; then terminal leave to final day), I thoroughly enjoy reading about our history particularly as it is/was a major part of my life. I
sincerely hope we continue to contribute to our great country and it’s safety.

All of you in the United States communications intelligence community have contributed greatly to the safety and security of our country. By its very nature, much of the work you do will never be made public. As one who spent the past 36 years (October 1986 – December 2019) studying Pearl Harbor and U.S. entry into World War II, I’ve often had to read between the lines to glimpse at the success of OP-20-G and its counterpart with the Signal Intelligence Service. Many of you gave your lives in serving your country. But many millions of lives world wide have been spared as a result of your dedication and individual as well as collective intelligence. Thank you all from a former “bed pan handler” during my service to our beloved Navy.
Well done, Mario and staff! Obviously your spouses are to be congratulated also.
Let this be the year I complete the writing of TIME TO REEXAMINE PEARL HARBOR.
THANK YOU & HAPPY NEW YEAR, 2020!
Andy McKane, Molokai, Hawaii – I’ll never retire as I definitely am happy in my work

As I am entering the “home stretch” I have to let you all know how much I’ve enjoyed the stories and updates from the Crypto Community. At seventy and then some years, I was especially interested in those about the Pueblo and The EC-121. I was on watch when the plane went down in Kami’s tunnel. Keep up the great work and Happy New Year to all shipmates past and present.

As a former R brancher in Bremerhaven, then an I brancher in NCSP Det A (Phu Bai) and Det B/ FltSupDet (Da Nang) I have greatly enjoyed many of your articles about the goings on during the mid-to late-60s. Of special interest have been reports about USS Liberty (CTC MD Smith was my R branch instructor). Also the EC-121 shoot down (knew several of the VQ1 crew from their rotations in DaNang) and the capture of USS Pueblo. The latter two incidents led to expanded use of water-soluable paper, if memory serves. Recently enjoyed a mini reunion of Vietnamese lingies from Dets A and B, in Charlotte, NC.
Thanks for helping to keep the flame alive.

I was a CTO second class, 64 to 68. Had the big fire in Kami when 12 sailors were killed. One ship was caprured and the second one was almost sunk. Countries did like us spying on them to see what was going on. I operated the crypto gear on Adak and Japan.
