Tomorrow Commander Matt J. Cegelske will be relieved by Commander Lemuel “Seth” Lawrence as the Commanding Officer, Cyber Defense Activity SIXTY FOUR.

Cyber Defense Activity SIXTY FOUR

Commander Cegelske attended Maine Maritime Academy and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Systems Engineering. He was commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps program in 2001. He graduated from Naval Nuclear Power School and Naval Prototype Training Unit in 2002. He transferred into the Information Professional Community in 2006; now part of the U.S. Navy’s larger Information Warfare Community.

Commander Cegelske’s afloat assignments include USS ALEXANDRIA (SSN 757), with deployments in the Atlantic and the Western Pacific, via the Arctic, supporting Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM; Carrier Strike Group One (CCSG-1 embarked USS CARL VINSON), as the Communications Officer and Information Assurance Manager, supporting Operations UNIFIED RESPONSE, ENDURING FREEDOM, and NEW DAWN; and most recently Expeditionary Strike Group Three (ESG-3) as the  Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Collaboration, and Intelligence (C5I) Assistant Chief of Staff, supporting Operation PACIFIC REACH.

Commander Cegelske’s ashore assignments include U.S. Central Command, serving as an Executive Officer in the Joint Operations Center; Defense Threat Reduction Agency serving as an Information Systems Officer, Program Manager and Contracting Officers Representative for major Research and Development modeling systems; Carnegie Mellon University as a Cyber Federal Executive Fellow; Deputy Chief of Naval Operations, Information Dominance (OPNAV N2N6) as a Deputy Executive Assistant; and Naval Computer & Telecommunications Area Master Station Atlantic Detachment Hampton Roads, as Officer in Charge.

Commander Cegelske established and assumed command of Cyber Defense Activity SIXTY FOUR in June 2017. From June 2018 to June 2019, he assumed a concurrent additional role as an operational Task Force Commander for the Cyber National Mission Force.

Additionally, he holds a Master of Science degree in Technology Management, is a Massachusetts Institute of Technology Seminar XXI fellow, holds the Certified Information Systems Security Professional and Certified Information Security Manager certifications, and is a part of the Navy’s Acquisition Corps.
