Tomorrow Commander Mitchell H. Finke, USN will be relieved by Commander Bernard T. O’Neill as the Commanding Officer, Cryptologic Warfare Maritime Activity SIXTY ONE / Commander, Task Group 1060.1.

Commander Finke’s biography follows:

CDR Finke, a native of Westfield, Indiana, was commissioned in 2001 through the Officer Candidates School, Pensacola, Florida as a Naval Intelligence Officer. CDR Finke assumed command of Cryptologic Warfare Maritime Activity SIXTY ONE (CWMA- 61) / Commander, Task Group 1060.1 in June 2017.

CDR Finke’s career has focused on operational intelligence at sea deploying multiple times to the U.S. 6th Fleet and U.S. 5th Fleet areas of responsibility in support of named operations to include ENDURING FREEDOM, IRAQI FREEDOM, and UNIFIED PROTECTOR (Libya); and to U.S. Southern Command in support of UNIFIED RESPONSE (Haiti earthquake relief). He has also served in staff assignments ashore at combatant command headquarters, joint intelligence centers, and Washington D.C.

Operational assignments include imagery officer, supplementary plot officer, and division officer in USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN-71); as N2 of Navy Special Warfare Task Unit-Fallujah assigned as an Individual Augmentee to SEAL Team TEN; and senior intelligence officer in USS BATAAN (LHD-5).

Shore assignments include Chief of Naval Operations Intelligence Plot (CNO-IP) as senior watch officer and lead briefing officer; Flag Aide to the Director of Naval Intelligence; CNO N2X Directorate coordinating and executing N2X programs and policies; U.S. Pacific Command Joint Intelligence Operations Center as a watch officer and branch chief focused on Southeast Asia to include support to the Joint Special Operations Task Force-Philippines; and U.S. Central Command Joint Intelligence Center as a senior watch officer, division chief focused on South and Central Asia, and executive assistant to the USCENTCOM Commander.

CDR Finke holds a Master’s Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies (with distinction) from the United States Naval War College and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Ball State University.

CDR Finke is authorized to wear the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards), Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2 awards), the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and numerous unit and campaign awards.
