Captain Nicholas Homan’s biography follows:

Captain Nicholas M. Homan
Chief of Staff, Office of Naval Intelligence

Captain Nicholas Homan assumed the duties of ONI Chief of Staff in May 2017 following service as Commanding Officer of the Nimitz Operational Intelligence Center.  Prior to his Nimitz assignment, he served on the Joint Staff J5 as an Afghanistan/Pakistan Hand.  Before duty with the Joint Staff, CAPT Homan served as Commanding Officer of Navy Information Operations Command (NIOC) Colorado.  Prior to that, he served as Chief, Signals Intelligence/Information Operations Division at the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC).

CAPT Homan’s notable deployment include tour as the Director of Intelligence of Joint Special Operations Task Forces in both Afghanistan and Iraq, a tour as Ships Signals Exploitation Space Division Officer embarked on USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6), Strike Group Staff Cryptologic Resource Coordinator/Information Warfare Officer (CRC/IWO) embarked on USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75), both in the Arabian Gulf, and multiple deployments as a Communications Evaluator in the skies over the former Yugoslavia.

CAPT Homan’s Information Warfare Community assignments include duty on four ships and two aircraft squadrons, Direct Support/Operations Officer for Naval Security Group Activity (NSGA) Rota, Spain, and Operations/Executive Officer of NSGA Denver.  His staff and interagency experience includes assignments as the JSOC Liaison Officer (LNO) to the Special Operations Command Washington Officer at the Pentagon on Joint Staff J5, Plans and Policies; CRC/IWO Commander; Carrier Strike Group 10; Information Warfare Officer Junior Officer detailer at the Bureau of Navy Personnel; and Chief of Customer Support, Aerospace Data Facility, Aurora, CO.

CAPT Homan enlisted in the Navy in 1983 as an Aviation Electronics Technician.  He was commissioned through the Enlisted Commissioning Program (ECP) in 1992.  He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Nebraska, where he was the Honor Graduate of his Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) class.  CAPT Homan received his Master of Science in Astronautical Engineering from the Naval Post Graduate School.

CAPT Homan’s awards include two Bronze Stars, two Defense Meritorious Service Medals, three Meritorious Service Medals, two Air Medals, Joint Service Commendation Medal, three Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medals, Joint service Achievement Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Combat Action Ribbon, and various service and campaign awards.  He was recognized as the inaugural recipient of the Captain Joseph Rochefort Information Warfare Officer Distinguished Leadership Award.
