Today, Lieutenant Commander Ryan Haag was relieved by Lieutenant Commander Brian Broadwell as Officer In Charge, Navy Information Operation Detachment, Groton. Lieutenant Commander Broadwell’s biography follows:

Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) Broadwell was born in Raleigh, NC and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from East Carolina University in 2003. After receiving his commission as a Cryptologic Warfare Officer via OCS in 2004 he reported to his first duty station at Naval Security Group Activity Ft. Meade.
During his tour at NSGA Ft. Meade, LCDR Broadwell served in multiple positions to include Malicious Code Analyst, Desk Officer on the National Security Operations Center Watch Floor, Operations Officer for a National Level CND mission, and as an Officer in Charge for the deployment and integration of RF systems in OIF and OEF. He also completed an IA as an IO Planner at COMUSNAVCENT N39 and his Masters of Science in Software Engineering from Loyola College in Baltimore, MD.
Following NSGA Ft. Meade, LCDR Broadwell reported to the USS KIDD – DDG 100 homeported out of San Diego, CA in 2008. While onboard the KIDD he served as the Signals Warfare Officer, Special Security Officer, and Focal Point Control Officer. During his tour the USS KIDD won two Green E’s, two Battle E’s, and was selected as the 2009 COMNAVSURFOR Intelligence Excellence Award runner-up. He also successfully completed all requirements for his Information Warfare Qualification and Surface Warfare Officer Qualification, and was awarded the warfare devices for both.
In 2010, LCDR Broadwell reported to Naval Special Warfare Support Activity TWO (SA2) in Virginia Beach, VA as a Tactical Information Operations Officer where he deployed to Afghanistan in support of SEAL Team TWO. While at SA2 he completed Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) Phase I training through the Naval War College.
In 2014, LCDR Broadwell transferred to Naval Special Warfare Development Group (NSWDG). During his time there he deployed to East Africa in support of a Joint Task Force as an EW Detachment OIC for a Tactical, Development, and Evaluation Squadron. Following deployment he stood up the Tactical Cyberspace Operations Troop and was the first Troop Commander.
LCDR Broadwell currently serves as the Navy Blue Team Lead at NIOC Norfolk.
LCDR Broadwell’s personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2 Awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (3 Awards), Navy Achievement Medal (2 Awards), Army Commendation Medal, and various unit and campaign awards.
