Remembering CT1 Warren E. Hersey, KIA USS LIBERTY

Warren Edward Hersey was born on October 14, 1942 to Mr. and Mrs Warren O. Hersey in Stoneham Massachusetts. On April 4 1961, at the age of 18, he enlisted in the navy.

At the age of 24, CT1 Hersey along with 33 other men was killed on June 8, 1967 while serving on the USS LIBERTY (AGTR 5).

Today, he and his family would have celebrated his 74th birthday.

Remembering IT2 Timothy T. Eckels, Jr. USN, Killed onboard USS JOHN S. McCain (DDG 56)

On August 21, 2017, Petty Officer Second Class, Timothy Thomas Eckels Jr., USN, died while serving his country aboard the USS John S. McCain.  The ship was en route Changi, Singapore when it struck merchant ship near the Straits of Malacca.

NIOD Alice Springs Established October, 1, 2005

The U.S. Naval Security Group Detachment, Alice Spring was established in October, 1998. On September 30, 2005, NSG Det Alice Springs was administratively closed and was re-established on October 1, 2005 as the Navy Information Operations Detachment (NIOD) Alice Springs, Australia.  An Echelon IV command, NIOD Alice Springs is subordinate to Cryptologic Warfare Group SIX, formally known as NIOC Maryland (CTF 1060).
