Tomorrow (August 31, Yokosuka Japan time), Commander Robert Damsky will be relieved as the Commanding Officer of Navy Information Operations Command Yokosuka, Japan by Commander Joel Yates.  Commander Demsky next assignment will the J2 for NATO.  Congratulations on a successful command tour we wish the best on your next!  Commander Damsky’s biography follows:

Commander Robert Damsky is a native of New York City and graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, Florida with a B.S. in Business Administration in April 1992. He enlisted in the Navy in October 1992 as a Cryptologic Technician (Collection). After Boot Camp in Great Lakes, Illinois, he attended CTR “A” school in Ft. Devens, Massachusetts with follow on training in Pensacola, Florida.

His first duty assignment was as a Direct Support Operator from Naval Security Group Activity, Rota, Spain from April 1994 to June 1996 where he deployed on various surface ships, submarines, and with Special Warfare teams in the Mediterranean, Adriatic, and Persian Gulf. He then attended CTR “C” school in Pensacola, Florida and was then assigned as a Direct Support Operator at Naval Security Group Activity, Bahrain from July to November 1996 where he deployed on various submarines and surface combatants. He was selected to attend Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida and was commissioned as a Cryptologic Officer in March 1997.

After initial Cryptologic Officer training in Pensacola, his next assignment was at the National Security Agency at Ft. Meade, Maryland from September 1997 to September 2000 where he was a Balkans Area Analyst and was subsequently deployed to Bosnia with the 1st Armored Division and to Kosovo with the 1st Infantry Division.

He then was assigned as the first Electronic Warfare Officer/Information Warfare Officer onboard USS HOWARD (DDG 83) as part of the pre-commissioning crew from January 2001 to March 2003. CDR Damsky then attended the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California from March 2003 to September 2005 where he graduated with a M.S. in Systems Engineering with a minor in Computer Science.

CDR Damsky’s next assignment was to Naval Network Warfare Command, Ft. Meade, Maryland where he worked as a SIGINT Requirements Department Head from September 2005 to September 2008. He was deployed to Ramadi, Iraq from April 2006 to February 2007 as part of the Joint Crew Composite Squadron One and was assigned as a Battalion Electronic Warfare Officer where he conducted Counter IED operations across western Iraq.

CDR Damsky was then assigned to the Pentagon from October 2008 to October 2011 and worked in the Tactical Exploitation of National Capabilities shop (TENCAP) under OPNAV N6 and was selected to be the first Deputy Executive Assistant and then Executive Assistant to OPNAV N2/N6F from December 2009 to October 2011.

CDR Damsky then served as the Deputy Information Warfare Commander for Carrier Strike Group Five homeported in Yokosuka, Japan from January 2012 to March 2014 and was permanently embarked onboard USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) where he deployed throughout the Western Pacific.

CDR Damsky reported to Navy Information Operations Command, Hawaii in as Executive Officer from April 2014 to July 2015. He assumed Command of Navy Information Operations Command Yokosuka, Japan in AUG 2015.

His personal awards include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (3), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (2), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (2), Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Good Conduct Medal, and various unit and campaign medals.
