Did enlisted CTs go to sea during World War II?Answer: Yes. Radio Intelligence Units were assigned to Task Force 58 (Vice Admiral Marc Mitscher) and Task Force 38 (Vice Admiral John McCain) on a continuing basis. A language-qualified officer headed each unit. A Chief Radioman headed the enlisted contingent, with three or four senior and experienced enlisted personnel. They carried their own equipment with them when they boarded their assigned ships. Radio intelligence units were also assigned to Task Group 38.1 sailing with Rear Admiral J.J. Clark, USN.
