“It’s a Wonderful Life” – In Memory of CTICS Jeffery Heilman

Taps. The flag is folded. Hand salute. “…on behalf of a grateful nation.”

Such were the closing minutes of the memorial service celebrating the life and service of Cryptologic Technician Interpretive Senior Chief Petty Officer Jeffery Heilman. Jeff passed away on Christmas Eve 2016 watching his favorite Christmas movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” with family and friends at his side.

Remembering LT John H Singer, KIA , Shoot down of EC-121

15 April 1969 (Korean time) marked the final flight of a Navy VQ-1 EC-121/WV-2 callsign Deep Sea 129. Roughly 100 nm off the North Korean peninsula.

74 Years ago today, Naval Security Station moved to Nebraska Avenue, February 7, 1943

In 1942 Op-20G expanded into seventeen subsections and its chief became as Assistant Director for Communication Intelligence in the Office of Naval Communications. This coincided with the inclusion of all COMINT functions, including direction finding.
